What does "full bleed" mean?

“full bleed” id when the image is bleeding off the edge. Images like these need a bleed of 1/8 inch larger than the intended image size, so the excess can be cut off without showing a white edge.

Or, as Wikipedia states:

“Full bleed is printing from one edge of the paper to the other without the standard borders by which most personal printers are limited. This is useful for printing brochures, posters, and other marketing materials. Often the paper is trimmed after printing to ensure the ink runs fully to the edge and does not stop short of it.”

What are the standard paper sizes?

Standard paper sizes are:

  • 8½ x 11 (letter)
  • 11 x 17 (tabloid)
  • 5 x 7 (art cards)
  • 4¼ x 5½ (postcards)
  • 3½ x 2 (business cards)
  • 48 x 36, 36 x 12, 24 x 18 (architectural drawings)
